Surname Bijakanja (Bijakanjev)
For the Bijakanje family, I did not find any indication that they used a "different" surname, except that the oldest records of the Bijakanjev surname can perhaps be connected with the surname Pomaglić, which surname was represented in Savar, about which more below. As far as I know, today there are no more people who bear this surname, but in Brbinj, above the parish church, there is still an old stone house of the Bijakanjev family, perhaps the most beautiful old stone house in Brbinj.
When the Bijakanjev family is observed through the period in which the Glagolitic registers of Brbinj parish were written, it can be said that they were a relatively small family. From the register of deaths and births, we learn that Mikula Bijakanev lived in the late 17th and early 18th centuries and died in 1716, and Ivan Bijakanev died in 1733 at the age of 60.
However, even these Mikula and Ivan were not Bijakanjev by birth, but came to their estate from Mikljanjev family, as we learn from the list of the state of souls of Brbinj parish.
Mikula Miklanić and Ive Miklanić are listed between Hrišić and Zagorčić family members in the list of souls from 1696, which is the place where the Bijakanjev family members should be listed. Mikula and Ive Miklanić were registered that way until 1702, when, they were registered as Mikula Bijakanev and Ive Bijakanev between Hrišić and Zagorčić,
They both had male children, but the line obviously did not manage to be maintained and that is why Manda, the daughter of the late Ivan Bijakanev, marries Matij son of ?? Božaev from Dragove. In the register of births, this Matij is called Matij Smolanov from Dragove, less often Matija Bijakanev. So, the Bijakanevs, after the marriage of Matija Smolanov from Dragove, who takes the surname Bijakanev, and Mande Bijakanev are actually the Smolanov from Dragove in the male line, and the Bijakanev in the female line, which is another example of a series of examples of coming to other families estates and taking their surname in Brbinj during this period.
It is interesting that this Matij from Dragovo is called Smolanov in the register of births in several places[1] and that in the register of marriages, when registering the fact of his marriage with Manda Bijakaneva in 1736, he is marked as the son of ?? Bozajeva from Dragove.
Grozdana Franov Živković processed the Glagolitic registers of the parish of Rava[2] and she found brides from the Bijakanjev family from Brbinj on Rava. Šimun Šimičin from Rava had four children with his wife Vicenza Bjakana from Brbinj (Elena baptized 09.05.1626; Ivan baptized 07.05.1630; unnamed daughter baptized 20.09.1635 and Stoša baptized 27.12.1641)
In the book of Chrism of the parish of Brbinj, we have few entries related to the Bijakanjev family. Thus, in 1674, Ela, daughter of Elena Bijakanev, "her father is unknown", was confirmed in 1687, "Mate daughter of Mikla Bijakanev and Manda", and in 1721, Matia Bikanev was confirmed.
According to the population census from 1608, the parish priest of Brbinj is Zorzi (Juraj) Biancanovich, while according to the excerpts from the register of baptisms (1602 - 1613) and register of marriages (1601 - 1613) of the Brbinj parish in 1608, Brbinj parish priest is called Juraj Pomaglić[3]. It is probably the same person, because it is unlikely that in the same period of time there were two different pastors with the same personal name in Brbinj. If it is not the same person, how to explain the entries in the Glagolitic registry books from 1608? Pomaglić or Pomaljić is a surname that appeared in Savar in the 17th century, in the 1608 census there were as many as four Pomaglic families in Savra.
