Surname Vlah (Vlahov)

Today in Brbinj, there are no surnames Vlah, Vlahov or similar surnames, nor is there any tradition or memory of a family from Brbinj with such a surname. In the books about Brbinj, Brbinj through history[1] and Native dictionary and chronicle of Brbinj[2] it is stated, all based on the research and writings of two Brbinj pastors, don Vlado Cvitanović and don Leonard Riko Finka, that this is one of the surnames in Brbinj in the 17th century.

In the register of deaths of Brbinj parish in 1671, there is an entry of the death of Lucija Vlahov "at the age of 70". With this Lucija Vlahov, I assume that the family of the Vlahov in Brbinj is dying out. It is also possible that the family of the Vlahov from Brbinj had another surname, like most of the families from Brbinj, but I have not been able to connect the Vlahov with another family from Brbinj. Also, since the surname Vlahov, Vlah did not make it to the Franciscan cadastral record from 1824, I was unable to determine exactly where they lived in Brbinj.

In the Fragments of the Birth Register of Brbinj Parish in 1604, the baptism of Lucija, daughter of Ivan Vlahović and Elena Vladić, was recorded, which could be this Lucija Vlahova who died in 1671.

Ivan Vlah was the godfather at the baptism in Brbinj in 1603, and Kata, Ivan Vlah's daughter, was the godmother at the baptism in Brbinj in 1605 and 1606. Mariko (Marko) Vlahošić was the godfather at the baptism in Brbinj in 1607.

In the register of births of the parish of Brbinj in 1720, the godfather at baptism is Jadre Vlahov from Iž, so these are not the Vlahov family members from Brbinj, but the Vlahov from Iž, whose surname in Iž has been preserved to this day. So, a family with this surname lived in Brbinj in the 17th century, after which I no longer found a mention of this surname. I have not been able to find out if the Vlachov family died out or if they had another surname under which they survived.
