Tips for researching the genealogy of families from Dugi otok
There are several basic sources for researching the history of Dugi otok families. The main source is certainly the church registers of Dugi otok parishes, and they are kept in the State Archive in Zadar, the Archive of the Zadar Archdiocese and the Archive of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. In addition to birth, death and marriage registers, this includes christening registers and Status Animarum.
Some monographs are also very helpful. First of all, it is the book "List of Glagolitic Codes of the Zadar Archdiocese"[1] and series of books "Monumenta glagolitica Archidioecesis Iadertinae"[2]These monographs list the Glagolitic codices from the area of the Zadar Archdiocese, including the Glagolitic church registry books, and in a series of Monumenta glagolitica Archidioecesis Iadertinae, some of them are also processed (translitered to Latin script). Given the importance of these monographs as sources for genealogical research, I will publish special blogs about them.
Village Veli rat has its own monography published[3]in which the genealogies of Veli rat, Verunić and Polje families are researched in an extraordinary way.
For a deeper research of the genealogy of this island interesting can be also the documentation created by the creation of the so-called 19th century Franciscan cadastre for cadastral municipalities from Dugi otok (which is partly kept in the State Archive in Zadar and mostly in the State Archive in Split), including cadastral maps and documentation of the Archive of the Archdiocese of Zadar relating to the records of the Illyrian seminary Zmajević from Zadar (especially for the parishes of Brbinj and Sali).
Wills or other documentation from the Fond of Zadar Notaries of the State Archive in Zadar and in general the material of the State Archive in Zadar can also be an important source for such research.
From scientific journals, I would recommend the editions of the journal „Radovi Zavoda za povijesne znanosti HAZU u Zadru“ especially articles by Grozdana Franov Živković and Zdenko Dundović. Of the popular scientific journals, I would recommend the journal for research of Glagolitic script from Zadar "Slovo rogovsko".
