Surnames Brunac and Ivančev
In Brbinj, during the researched period, there were families bearing both the surname Brunac and the surname Ivančev, after all, just like today in Brbinj. Their old houses are next to each other. My assumption is that it could be about one family, the Brunčev (Brunac) family, part of which family was called Ivančev, probably after the head of the family, Ivan Brunac, while the other part of the family, which according to my research originates from Jure Brunac, remained marked with the surname Brunac. Later, Brunčev and Ivančev got married between themself[1] and family which we call Brunac Ivančev are born.
In the observed period, i.e. the second half of the 17th and 18th centuries, this is perhaps the most numerous genus in Brbinj. Also, along with the Kalebs, the Bolonja and the Rančev families, it seems that this is one of the rare Brbinj clans which, in the observed period, is truly a Brunce clan in the male line, which is again a consequence of their number.
In the Excerpts of the oldest registry books of the parish of Brbinj, we find the surname Brunac or Brunčić, so in 1602 we have the following entry in the register of marriages: "I made a marriage to Matij Abelić and Lucija Španolov and the witness was Stipan Marka?, Šimun Pesićević, fra Dunat Brunčić". Also, in 1610, Manda, daughter of Jivan Brunac, is mentioned in the register of marriages.
I found the oldest mention of the Brunčev surname in the Glagolitic registers of the Brbinj parish, apart from excerpts from the register of marriages of the parish of Brbinj from 1602 and 1610, in the register of marriages in 1656, when Ivan Brunac appears as a witness at the marriage. In the death register, the death of Ivan Brunac was recorded in 1678, at the age of 100. This could be Ivan, after whom part of Brunčev family was called Ivančevi.
The following indications indicate that the Ivančević family are actually part of the Brunčev family. In 1785, the death register of Brbinj parish recorded the death of Mikula Ivančev at the age of 91. In the register of births of the parish of Brbinj from 1693, when the registration of births of children in Brbinj begins, until 1700 there is no registration of the birth of a single child named Mikula, except for the birth registration from 1695 when Mikula was born to Ivan Brunac and Mara, daughter of Visko Cvitulić. So, Mikula Ivančev was born to his father Ivan Brunac. In the book of confirmation of Brbinj parish, it is confirmed that Mikula is the son of Ivan Brunčev and his wife Mara[2]. Furthermore, in the register of deaths in 1802, the death of 16-year-old Šime Ivančev was recorded, and in the register of births in 1784, the birth of Šimun and Tadej to Jive Brunac and Matija Barićević was recorded, also in that year no other child was born to the Ivančev family.
I found the first mention of the Ivančev surname in the Glagolitic registers of Brbinj parish in 1734, in the register of marriages when the marriage between Anton Jivančev and Tomica, daughter of Matij Kamilo, was recorded. Anton and Tomica had eight children, but in the birth register, Anton is not called Ivančev, but Brunac, Brunčev or Brunčić. In the Book of Confirmations, however, in 1714, the confirmation of Ante, the son of Ivan Brunčev and Mara, was recorded, so Ante could be called Ivančev because he is the son of Ivan Brunac. In 1707, the birth register of Brbinj parish recorded the baptism of Ante, son of Ivan Brunac and Mara, which confirms the thesis that Ante Brunac is Ivančev, because he is the son of Ivan Brunac. Since the Brunčev family were a numerous family at the time, sometimes several different people from this family have the same personal names, so it is easy to come to wrong conclusions about the exact origin of certain branches of the Brunčev and Ivančev families. For example, I state that in 1701, the birth register of Brbinj parish recorded the baptism of Anton, the son of Jure Brunac and his wife Lucia, who should not be confused with Ante or Anton, the son of Ivan Brunac.
Anton Brunčev (Ivančev) and Tomica had a son Pero in 1735, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a son Ivan in 1737, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a son Matij in 1739, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a son Anton in 1742, Anton Bruncic and Tomica Kamilova had a daughter Stoša in 1746, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a daughter Franica in 1748, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a daughter Tomica in 1749, Anton Brunac and Tomica Kamilova had a son Šime in 1753.
That the Ivančev family are the same as the Brunčev family can be seen from the information about Petar Brunac, the son of Anton Brunac, who is also called Ivančević in some places, Brunčević elsewhere. Ivan Brunac is his grandfather. It was stated above that he was born in 1735 to father Anton Brunčev and mother Tomica. In the registry of marriages, for example, he appears in 1767 as the godfather and that as Pero Ivančev. In the same year, his marriage was recorded in the register of marriages, namely "between Pero, son of Anton Brunac and Jivanica, daughter of Petar Španol". With Ivanica Španolov or Perin[3] he had five children, and he was registered in the birth register as both Petar Ivančev and Petar Brunac. Thus, in 1768 Kate was born to Petar Brunac and Jivanica Španolova, in 1772 Marta was born to Petar Brunac and Jivanica Perina, in 1776 Martin to Petar Brunčev and Jivanica Španolova, and in 1780 Lucija was born to Petar Jivančev and Jivanica Perina and In 1783, Grgur from Petar Ivančev and Jivanica Perina.
There are many other indications in the Glagolitic registers that speak of the fact that the Ivančev family are actually part of the Brunčević family, this is especially evident in the female descendants of the Brunčev family who marry in Brbinj. They are also called Brunac and Ivančev.
From the oldest data of the Glagolitic registers, and especially the Book of Confirmations, it can be seen that Ivan Brunac died in 1678 at the age of 100, and the male Brunčev family line is continued by Jure Brunac and his sons Mate[4] and Ive[5] and the sons of the late Ivan Brunac, Mikula[6], Šime[7] and Ante[8]. In 1728, the fact of the death of Juraj Brunac was entered in the death register, which entry could refer to this Juraj Brunac.
Matij Brunac[9] and his wife Ursula had sons Jure, Filip and daughter Stoša in 1711, 1713 and 1715, and their lineage continued. Also, Jure Brunac's second son, Ive Brunac, had numerous offspring, so he and his wife Klara had children Jela, Luca Benedita, Jela, Anton and Ivan[10].
The Ivančev family members, i.e. the sons of the late Ivan Brunac, Mikul, Šime and Ante, also had numerous descendants[11], with the fact that Šime Brunac married Stošija Masnov and took the surname Masnov, because the Masnov family were left without men, except for Anton Masnov, actually Kišanić from Luka, who married the older Stošija Masnova, Ivan Masnov's widow. As mentioned before, Šime or Šimun Brunac, son of Ivan Brunac, married Stošija, daughter of Ivan and Stošija Meštrović (Masnov) in 1726, and when the Masnov family were left without male descendants, except for Anton Masnov, who was actually Kišanić, he came to his wife's estate and took the surname Masnov[12]. Their lineage also died out[13] and in 1764, when four of the Masnov family member died in less than a month, probably from the plague, the grandson of Šime Brunac (Masnov), also named Šime Masnov, who married Justina Španjol and died immediately, after which Tomas Vladić aka Panada from Savar came to Masnov estate and takes the surname Masnov.
It is interesting when these data are compared with the data from the State archive in Split, where the documentation on the cadastral survey of Dalmatia and for the cadastral municipality of Brbinj is kept. As part of this documentation, there is also the Register of building parcels, which was compiled in 1824 with changes from 1841. According to the register given earlier in my transcript[14] In 1824, there were three houses of the Ivančev family and three houses of the Brunčev family in Brbinj. Ivančev Giovanni was registered at house number 24, Ivančev Pietro at number 25, Ivančev Giuseppe at number 26, Brunaz Antonio at number 27, Brunaz Michelle at number 28 and Brunaz Georgio at number 29. According to the changes in the Register of building parcels from 1841, under house number 29, Brunac Gregorio is no longer registered, but Baran Ante q. Ante.
If we look at the origin of the owners of Brunčev's houses from the Register of building parcels, we come to the information that, according to my conclusion, Brunaz Antonio and Brunaz Michelle from house numbers 27 and 28 are both descendants of the aforementioned Matij Brunčev[15], while Ivančev descendants are Mikula and Anton Brunac, sons of Ivan Brunac[16].
As it was said before, Brunčev and Ivančev later marry each other. Miho Brunac married Marija Ivančeva in 1832 and probably came to Ivančev's estate, which comes from the registers of the parish of Brbinj from the 19th century. Namely, Latin registers usually include information about the number of the house where the persons registered in the registers live. Miho Brunac lived at number 28 in Brbinj, and after his marriage he settled at number 25. So, in the 19th century, Brunčev and Ivančev married each other, and the Brunac family was born, which in Brbinj is called Brunac Ivančev.
In the work of Zdenko Dundović[17] I found interesting information about Brunčev. Dundović writes about a wine cellar near the city port gate in Zadar that once belonged to the monastery of St. Krševan, and after that the Glagolitic seminary in Zadar. The largest number of vineyards on the estates of the Gljagolitic seminary in Zadar in that period were located in Brbinj and Savar on Dugi otok and in Bibinje and Dračevac Zadarski. The manager and tenant of the wine cellar was the cooper (bottaro) Mate Brunac.
It is interesting that in the population census from 1608 there are no families with the surname Brunac, Brunčić or similar, but at the same time in the Excerpts of the register books of Brbinj parish from 1602 and 1610, the Brunčev surname in Brbinj is mentioned. I believe that the Brunčev family "hid" in the population census from 1608 under a different surname.

[9] This Matija Brunac is the son of Jure Brunac, which is also confirmed in the register of marriages of the parish of Brbinj when in 1709 the fact of marriage is entered "between Mate son of Jure Brunčev and Ursa daughter of Mikula ?idović from Sestrun", so he is part of the Brunčev family whose descendants continued surname Brunac

[15] Brunaz Michelle from number 28 descends from Brunac Miha, who descends from Jure Brunac, who descends from Matij Brunac, while Brunaz Antonio from number 27 descends from Ivan Brunac, who descends from Filip Brunac, who descends from Matij Brunac, while the entry is Brunac Georgia deleted from number 29 by changes to the Register from 1841, and instead of Brunac Gregorio, Baran Ante q Ante was entered. These conclusions must be viewed with a degree of caution, because the Brunčev and Ivančev families were so large in this period that it is very difficult to determine the exact origin of each family member

Is there connection?
I don t think so, there is no connection between these surnames, I wrote how surname Ivančev in Brbinj originated.
